Despite the fact that it had previously undergone various cognomens, this was the origin of the Distance Learning Institute (DLI). In order to achieve this goal, a Unit, the Correspondence and Open Studies Unit (COSU), was established in 1973.
COSU, in turn, would be transformed a decade later, in 1983, into the Correspondence and Open Studies Institute (COSIT), with the latter given some autonomy and a broader scope of operations.
Consistent with global advances in Open Studies and, in particular, distance learning mode of study, the University Senate in 1997, while re-affirming COSIT’s enhanced status and autonomy, effected some re-structuring and streamlining in the Institute’s general mode of operation.
